Analysis of Volatile Esters and Alkanoic Acids by an Atmospheric Pressure Corona Discharge Ionization Collision-Induced Dissociation Mass Spectrometry in Positive-Ion Mode: Ionization, Fragmentation Patterns, and Discrimination between Isomeric Compounds
نویسندگان
چکیده
The ionization and fragmentation patterns of 24 compounds with elemental composition CmH2mO2, including isomeric esters alkanoic acids, were investigated by atmospheric pressure corona discharge collision-induced dissociation (CID) mass spectrometry in the positive-ion mode. All ionized as protonated molecules NH4+ adducts. In addition, fragment ions observed spectra other than methyl esters, which are owing to alkyl group alcohol side from molecules. CID spectra, acids/methyl split off H2O/CH3OH CO or acid side, depending on carbon chain length. Protonated (other esters) mainly fragmented side. These general rules can provide relevant information discrimination isomers.

RATIONALE Mass spectrometry with atmospheric pressure ionization is the most promising method for studying the structure of natural lignin, which is the second most abundant biopolymer in nature. The goal of this study is to compare the efficiency and characteristics of different types of ionization techniques (ESI, APCI, and APPI) in the negative ion mode by the example of softwood lignin. M...

Atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (APCI-MS/MS) was applied for the first time to the direct analysis of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) in gaseous matrixes without extraction or prior chromatographic separation. Mass spectrometric characteristics of both compounds under APCI conditions and their fragmentation behavior in MS...
متن کاملAnalysis of the Photo Conversion of Asphaltenes Using Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry: Fragmentation, Ring Fusion, and Fullerene Formation
The conversion or photo conversion of asphaltenes to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH’s) promoted by a laser source is analyzed using both experimental and theoretical methods. We propose that during measurements performed at an intermediate laser power, fragmentation to afford PAH’s and ring fusion to yield fused PAH’s (FPAH’s) may occur either within molecular clusters (resin case) or wi...
